IS SENSORY-MOTOR AMNESIA THE UNKNOWN SOURCE OF YOUR PAIN?

Sensory motor amnesia is when the nervous system's ability to sense and adapt to our movements becomes impaired. This impairment can cause pain but by using a gentle mindfulness approach called Somatics, we can regain that ability and improve our health.

What is Sensory Motor Amnesia?

Sensory Motor Amnesia (SMA) occurs when the nervous system loses the ability to sense and adapt to movements. This can cause pain, as well as other problems such as abnormal muscle tone or loss of motor skills. SMA is also a common cause of chronic pain. Sensory Motor Amnesia is easily managed and reversed through the practice of Somatic Movement.


Why Do We Develop Sensory Motor Amnesia (SMA)?

Sensory motor amnesia (SMA) is a form of amnesia that occurs when the brain loses sensorimotor connection to a part of the body. This leads to the loss or distortion of sensory information coming from a specific body part, and motor control of that part is also lost. When the human body spends prolonged time in a sympathetic (trauma) response muscles can become stuck in contraction and eventually lose contact with sensorimotor signals from the brain. This can also be caused by repetitive movements or a sedentary lifestyle.


How Does The Nervous System Lose Its Ability To Sense?

Your nervous system is a complex network of nerves that control all the functions of your body. The nervous system is made up of the brain, spinal cord, and nerves. The brain is responsible for receiving information from the outside world and sending instructions to muscles and organs; the spinal cord carries these instructions from one place in your body to another; nerves carry messages from parts of your body back to the central nervous system (your brain and spinal cord).

The sensory neurons are located throughout our bodies so they can sense pressure, temperature, touch, vibration, and pain. These signals are then transmitted through neurons (to other areas) until they reach their final destination: our brains! Sensory Motor Amnesia occurs when the nervous system gets stuck in a state of overwhelm and the sensory-motor loop becomes muddled.


What Happens When We Cannot Sense Ourselves?

Sensory Motor Amnesia is a condition where the nervous system loses its ability to sense and adapt to our movements. This can cause pain, as the nervous system is the body's master control system that controls everything from breathing to digestion to movement. When the brain loses connection to our muscles, they stay in a contracted state permanently causing immobility and pain.


Think of your nervous system like an orchestra conductor. He conducts the symphony of your body, making sure each part plays his part in harmony with all others so you can experience life at its fullest potential. Once he loses touch with one or more instruments in his orchestra (because they're injured or damaged), then he loses his ability to fully orchestrate how you move through life in perfect unison with all parts working together effortlessly—which leads to pain!


What Are The Signs Of Sensory Motor Amnesia?

You may have sensory motor amnesia if you may experience any or all of the following symptoms:

  • Pain in the body. This can be general or specific to certain areas of the body.

  • Muscle tightness and weakness. You may notice that muscles are tight or weak, which affects their ability to move properly. In some cases, muscles will become too stiff or loose instead of being in between these two states—this is called a muscle spasm. It's important to note that normal muscle tension is necessary; however, if this tension becomes excessive it may lead to pain and injury as well as poor posture and balance problems due to muscle imbalance (overactivity/underactivity).

  • Poor posture. Your posture refers to how straight or bent over you normally stand when walking around throughout your day-to-day activities; keeping good posture helps prevent injuries such as back pain because it reduces pressure on weight-bearing joints like knees and hips while also maintaining an even distribution of weight within each footstep taken during walking motions."

This can help people regain their ability to sense and adapt to their movements and stop pain at its source.
